Fundraising & Donations

Unfortunately, you are not able to add check and cash donations  (or as we call them, "offline gifts" ) directly to your fundraiser. This is a limitation of our fundraising platform, Classy, introduced in 2024.

We know it's not the instant gratification of being able to add them yourself and seeing your fundraising total go up, but we will strive to add them to your fundraising page within 48 hours of receiving your checks at Project Bread's office.

Here is how to turn in cash and check donations: (a reminder, please do not mail cash):

Visit our fundraising resources page for more information on collecting cash and check donations.

Collecting donations online is recommended and will allow for the quickest and most direct updates to your online fundraising totals.

If you do receive donations in the form of a check, please follow these steps to ensure its allocated correctly:

  • Make sure your name and / or team name is in the memo line.
    • Checks with only a team name will count toward the team total only.
  • Mail checks to Project Bread at 145 Border Street, East Boston, MA 02128.
  • To track your envelope, use a post office with tracking enabled. Project Bread is not able to support tracking checks until they arrive at our office.
  • Once received and processed by our team, donations will appear on your fundraising page within 2-4 days.

Your participation in The Walk for Hunger fuels vital statewide anti-hunger initiatives across Massachusetts. We are all about advocating for sustainable, equitable, and community-based solutions to make food accessible for everyone.

There is not a registration fee for the 2025 Walk for Hunger.

Fundraising is a powerful opportunity to grow our movement and drive real change. There is not a fundraising minimum for the 2025 Walk for Hunger. But if you're able, we encourage everyone to fundraise.

We encourage all individual walkers to fundraise a minimum of $25 and teams $250 if you can. 100% of the funds you raise will directly support the fight against hunger in Massachusetts!

For your records, it’s 04-2931195.

It's simple! Make your gift here, or if you prefer, contact your account manager with the Walker or Team's name in the designation or notes section when directing the gift. Include Project Bread's mailing address, tax ID (04-2931195), and list Christian Miron, Vice President of Individual Giving, as a contact if needed. Your support means the world!

Please note: Donor advised funds or charitable account gifts may take 1-2 weeks to arrive at Project Bread’s office and be added to your fundraising page to reflect on your thermometer.

Contact Shannon Healey at Shannon_Healey@projectbread.org for details on how you can contribute to making a positive impact.

Absolutely! Marissa Rafal, Manager of Individual Giving at Project Bread, is hosting weekly Fundraising "office hours" every Tuesday evening at 6pm through April 29th.

Register in advance for the next session on Tuesday, April 22nd here!

If you need any assistance in the meantime, please email us at walk@projectbread.org.

Boston Common Event

The Walk will be held on the Boston Common, on the corner of Beacon St. and Charles St.

Join us at the Common for our 3-mile route designed for every age and ability or choose to Walk Your Own Way and make a difference from wherever you are!

Park Street (Red/Green) or Boylston Street (Green) are the closest stations; Government Center (Blue) for a short 10 minute walk).

Boston Common parking garage is located at 0 Charles St. You may also find metered street parking in the area.

The Walk for Hunger will kick off at 9am! Check-in and day-of registration opens at 7:30am. Be sure to arrive early so you have plenty of time to get your shirt and enjoy the stage entertainment before The Walk begins!

Nope - flexibility is the name of the game! Choose the option to "Walk Your Own Way" when registering to start raising critical anti-hunger funds and celebrate The Walk for Hunger from wherever you are!

You can also show your support by giving generously today and contributing to our $1 million goal.

The 2025 Walk for Hunger is 3 loops around the Boston Common, each loop is 1 mile. But of course, you can choose how many loops you want to conquer!

Times change, and so do we! The new 3-mile format ensures more of funds we raise together go directly to statewide anti-hunger efforts, carrying on our tradition of neighbors helping neighbors.

The Walk route is fully paved and there will be no street crossings/closures. The route is wheelchair and stroller friendly and there are benches along the entire path.

Wanna go the extra mile? Register for the Walk Your Own Way experience and create your own Walk route to raise awareness and funds about food insecurity from wherever you are.

Strap on your comfiest walking shoes, charge your phone, and tie a sweatshirt (or raincoat) around your waist just in case. If it’s going to be sunny, consider a hat and sunscreen.

Bring a waterbottle - there will be refill stations!

Light snacks, water, and medical support will be available on the Common, but there will not be a place to store your belongings.

So, bring what you need, but only pack what you can carry!

We love dogs, but for safety, we ask that you please leave them at home. Service dogs are warmly welcome.

Accessibility on The Boston Common

With a 3-mile, fully paved, and low incline route through Boston Common, this year’s Walk for Hunger is more accessible than ever. The Start Line will be along the paved path, so families and Walk participants with mobility devices won’t have to worry about curbs, grass, or uneven terrain as we kick off The Walk together.

We encourage you to take breaks along the way! There are plenty of benches along The Walk route, as well as designated event seating areas, water stations, and snack stations.

Boston EMS will have a station located at the corner of Charles Street and Beacon Street. Their station will be staffed by paramedics for the entirety of The Walk.

If you need medical assistance, you can request support from the nearest Project Bread staff member or volunteer who can get you connected to the EMS station.

Along the route, you will find water bottle refill stations and fresh fruit and snacks for refueling on the go!  We’ll also have a food tent and food trucks for delicious (and celebratory!) refreshments to enjoy with family, coworkers, and friends!

The Walk for Hunger will feature music, games, and speakers throughout the day. There will be plenty of people walking and cheering in the heart of downtown Boston, and we expect that this event will be noisy! We recognize that everyone has different sensory needs, and we will be providing free ear plugs for anyone who needs them at the Information & Resources booth.

Project Bread staff will be ready to answer any food access questions and provide you with resources on SNAP, our FoodSource Hotline, and any information you may need about The Walk.

Project Bread staff will be wearing “I Speak” buttons to help Walk participants identify multilingual staff who can assist them throughout the day at the Check-In, Information & Resources Booth, and the Policy Station.

Our Walk for Hunger Registration page can be translated into multiple languages through the built-in Google translation widget. We also have a Walk for Hunger event page in Spanish!

We will have ASL interpreters available on-site for both stage programming interpretation and assisting walk participants at the Check-In station.

Heart & Sole

Heart & Sole is what we call Walk for Hunger participants who raise $500 in their personal fundraiser! You can tell who is a Heart & Soler on Walk Day because they stand out in a special t-shirt that let's people know they're a top fundraiser and passionate supporter of our mission.

As a Heart & Soler, you'll get:

  • A special Heart & Sole tshirt
  • Access to the Heart & Sole tent on Boston Common with breakfast

Walk Your Own Way

You don’t need to walk on Boston Common to fundraise for food relief. Walking your own way is the perfect way to make an impact from anywhere! Whether you’re walking 20 miles, or walking from your front door to the mailbox, participate whenever and however works for you!

Visit give.projectbread.org/walk to register. Decide if you’re going to register as an individual or Form a Team. Or Join a Team for that matter!

A team can have a mix of "Walk Your Own Way" and "Walk on Boston Common" participants.

Either way, 100%of the funds you raise help people access food with dignity!

If you raise $25 in your personal fundraiser by May 15, we'll mail you a 2025 participant tshirt and button.

  • We only do one special pre-event mailing to get people swag prior to event day. This mailing takes place on March 31. In order to receive your swag in the mail to be worn on Walk Day, raise $25 in your personal fundraiser by March 31, 2025

If you become a Heart & Soler by June 1, 2025 (raising $500) we'll mail you your special H&S membership shirt.

Walk Your Own Way whenever you like, however you like! But there are two dates to consider:

Walk Your Own Way on or before May 4th:

Share on social photos of yourself "Walking Your Own Way" with #walkforhunger and tag @projectbread and we can share it on the jumbotron at the inperson Walk on Boston Common!

If you are a team participating in The Commonwealth:

The fundraising deadline is June 30th so you may want to plan your walk prior to that to support fundraising.

On the grass behind the registration and check-in tents, we have a designated Team Meeting Zone. This is a good place to meet up with your teammates. You can make a plan to meet in that area, or make an alternative plan that works for you!
