Make sure lawmakers see the real people behind their policies.

During the government shutdown, millions are facing delayed or reduced SNAP benefits — and behind those numbers are real people. Parents, veterans, seniors, and children who count on SNAP to put food on the table.

Now is the time to make your voice heard. You can SNAP BACK by joining a nationwide effort to share the real stories behind SNAP — stories that show the human impact of policy decisions and remind lawmakers what’s truly at stake.

Through the #SNAPBack campaign, your story will be shared online and directly with state and federal legislators to help shift the narrative, influence policy, and bring food relief back to families who need it most.

How to Participate

Tell legislators what SNAP means to you. And how you've been impacted by their choice to delay/reduce benefits. Share your story — in writing or on video — to help protect food assistance for millions Follow the steps below!

Respond to one or both prompts:

1. “This is what SNAP has meant to me"

  • How has SNAP helped you or your family stay fed, stable, and healthy?
  • What difference has it made in your life?
     

2. “Loss of SNAP has impacted me in this way”

  • How are you coping with delayed or reduced benefits? How has the stress impacted you?
  • What hard choices are you facing because of it? 
  • What would you want lawmakers to understand about what this feels like?

Share Your Story

1. Record a short video (30–90 seconds)

  • Film on your phone in a quiet space. 

Optional:

  • Begin with "My name is [first name only if you prefer] I live in [city/state] and this is my #SNAPBack Story"
  • End With: " Im sharing my story because SNAP help families like mine survive."
     

2. Write your story

Example Story: SNAP helped me keep food on the table when i lost my job in June. i could still feed my kids healthy meals while i looked for work. But now, with benefits delayed, we've had to skip meals and rely on the food pantry. No family should have to live like this. It's time to #SNAPBack - Congress must restore our benefits immediately."
