Uncertainty in Washington Threatens Food Security for Massachusetts Families

The uncertainty and gridlock in Washington have very real impacts on families and communities here in Massachusetts. Federal programs like the Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program (SNAP), the Special Supplemental Nutrition Program for Women, Infants, and Children (WIC), school meals, and MassHealth remain available for now, but a prolonged shutdown could jeopardize these critical supports, leading to an entirely preventable hunger crisis for hundreds of thousands of individuals and families.

As this situation unfolds in Congress, Project Bread is committed to ensuring individuals and families have the support they need. Through our FoodSource Hotline (1-800-645-8333), we’re connecting people with SNAP, food resources, and other community supports. We are also closely monitoring developments to provide timely, accurate information, while advocating to ensure food security remains a priority in all federal actions.

If you or someone you know needs help navigating food resources, please contact our FoodSource Hotline. Our counselors are here to help ensure no one in our community goes hungry during these uncertain times.
