Project Bread
On Jan. 20, President Donald Trump took office, marking the start of a new administration accompanied by significant changes and challenges. As we navigate this new landscape, the urgency of Project Bread’s mission to end food insecurity through bold, systemic solutions - has never been clearer.
One truth grounds us: hunger is a policy choice.
Project Bread is ready to stand firm against any efforts to reverse or weaken the progress we’ve made. We’ve faced these challenges before, and together, we can overcome them again. We will advocate and collaborate tirelessly to ensure no one in Massachusetts goes hungry.
Our dedication to justice informs our work. You can count on us for:
Advocating for policies that support every person’s ability to feed themselves and their families — regardless of any factor — age, gender, income, race/ethnicity, or country of origin.
Providing compassionate food assistance for anyone in Massachusetts at no cost through our FoodSource Hotline.
Proactively fighting systemic racism and economic discrimination within systems, policies, and organizations.
Seeking the expertise of those who experience hunger. These voices are central to our strategy, shaping equitable policies and programs so everyone gets what they need to thrive.
These values and commitments are our true north and guiding stars, charting the course of our policy and programmatic work, now and into the future, to achieve our shared mission.
Recent reports indicate that House leaders are considering policy changes that could negatively impact low-income families and individuals. These proposals include significant cuts to the Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program (SNAP) and other essential programs that ensure access to food.
Such measures would increase hardship in Massachusetts, making it harder for many to afford food and threatening the progress we’ve made toward reducing hunger in our state. These cuts would disproportionately harm children, seniors, and people with disabilities - those who are already most vulnerable to food insecurity.
At Project Bread, we are committed to advocating against policies that increase hunger and deepen inequities. Our work focuses on ensuring that everyone in Massachusetts has the opportunity to access the resources they need to lead healthy, fulfilling lives.
We urge our policymakers to prioritize investments in programs that uplift our communities and advance food security for all.
As we brace for the work that lies ahead, we are re-committing to ensure that every person in Massachusetts has access to nutritious food. This commitment entails fighting against harmful proposals and advocating for policies that protect and expand essential programs.
We promise to continue integrating food security into the healthcare system, partnering with schools to feed kids delicious and nutritious meals, feeding kids during the summer, strengthening community ties, and answering calls to the FoodSource Hotline. We have our eyes set on high ambitions, like our goal to Make Hunger History. We are working with a diverse coalition to accomplish it.
Your support and advocacy have been the backbone of every policy victory and every program that empowers our neighbors to put food on their tables. Now, more than ever, your partnership is vital. Massachusetts has a rich history of championing food security, with Project Bread recognized as a longstanding leader in driving change. The success of the School Meals for All initiative represents just one of the many victories our community has achieved together.
With your continued support and advocacy, we are determined to strive for even greater accomplishments in the future. The road ahead may be long, but we are committed to defending your right to access and afford food with dignity.
