Feed Kids Educator Panel Briefing

Feed Kids Campaign Convenes Panel of Educators for Legislative Briefing

On Thursday, March 23, Project Bread, the state’s leading anti-hunger organization, will host a virtual advocacy event in which educators will make the case for School Meals for All legislation, which would allow every student who wants or needs a school breakfast or lunch to receive it – at no cost to their family and with no requirement to sign up or provide income or other information.

The event will feature a panel of educators who will share their experience working with students and seeing the impact free school meals have had on differing districts, from before the pandemic to today. Hunger is found in every district and every neighborhood across Massachusetts, and these education professionals are at the forefront of meeting student needs, regardless of income or demographics.

Panelists

Leran Minc, Assistant Director of State Policy at Project Bread, will open the event and introduce Addario Miranda, a 16-year-old Project Bread youth advocate with former lived experience with food insecurity and event moderator. Panelists include:

  • Bernie McMann, Coordinator of Health Services & Wellness for Billerica Public Schools
  • Amy Mistrot, Director of Business Operations for Newton Public Schools
  • Marta García, English as a Second Language teacher, Witchcraft Elementary School in Salem and 2022 Massachusetts Teacher of the Year
  • Dr. Magda Parvey, Superintendent for Andover Public School
  • Dr. Paul Haughey, Superintendent for Spencer East Brookfield Public Schools
