The Election is Over, but the Work is Just Beginning.

Jennifer Lemmerman, Vice President of Public Policy at Project Bread

The election is over, but the work is just beginning.

Food insecurity is a political condition. The decisions made at all levels of government can break down the barriers that result in unequal access to food and move us toward a future where no person goes hungry.

We congratulate President-elect Joe Biden and Vice President-elect Kamala Harris. As the transition of administrations gets underway, we are hopeful that the work will begin in earnest to reverse recent attacks on our federal nutrition programs and to strengthen resources for the unprecedented number of families struggling to afford enough to eat.

We also congratulate Senator Markey and all of our returning Massachusetts Representatives, and we welcome Jake Auchincloss. We look forward to the continued work with you to boost SNAP, strengthen child nutrition programs and pass a COVID relief package that prioritizes response to devastating rates of food insecurity.

Finally, to the new and returning members of the state legislature, we thank you for your work on behalf of the 1 in 5 families with children in MA who are experiencing food insecurity. Massachusetts has a proud history of leadership and innovation when addressing community needs. We look forward to working with you to continuing the tradition!
